It was nice to take a short break from blogging and have people ask me where I was. You guys, you missed me (mom). Apparently I can pull off blogging with some amount of regularity when working a full time job, but impossible when I’m on vacation and my only child is
Here we are in 2019. I don’t love odd numbered years, but I suppose that can’t be helped. I do though, love this time of year. New start, new to-do lists (!), new perspective. Time is a construct that humans create, so in some ways, it’s odd to think of January first any differently from the day before. But we do. I do. I can visualize January first. I see it on the left side of my brain, all the other days ready to unfold in sequence across the page. It’s a fun time to start anew. Enter the New Year’s resolution. I don’t usually make one—it feels like a set-up for failure. I think the best ‘resolutions’ are less finite and more forgiving. For me, they take one of two forms—a project or an intention. In 2018 I committed to a 365 photo project (take a photo each day for the year), and I’m excited (surprised) to have completed it. I can’t wait to share it in a few weeks. The other, an intention, feels good too. You intend to work towards something, you strive in one direction, away from another. You can course correct and success is not binary.
In a direct copy of my favorite blog, Cup of Jo, I’m sharing a great form for intentions—the less/more list. I’m going to stick this baby up by my desk and keep it in mind throughout the year. What about you?
